Introduction

This 4-day safari offers an intimate and less-crowded primate experience in the beautiful Virunga Mountains region of southwestern Uganda. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the only park in Uganda where you can track both mountain gorillas and golden monkeys in the same location. The journey combines breathtaking volcanic scenery, rich biodiversity, and unforgettable encounters with two of Africa’s most fascinating primates.

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala / Entebbe to Mgahinga

After an early breakfast, depart from Kampala or Entebbe and begin your scenic drive to southwestern Uganda. The journey takes you through rolling hills, rural landscapes, and vibrant trading centers. Enjoy stopovers for photography and lunch en route before arriving at Mgahinga in the evening for relaxation and overnight.


Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience

Today is the highlight of your safari. After an early briefing at the park headquarters, set off into the forest to track a habituated gorilla family. The trek can vary in duration depending on the gorillas’ location, but the reward is extraordinary. Spend one magical hour observing these gentle giants as they feed, groom, and interact in their natural habitat.


Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking & Cultural Experience

Begin the day with golden monkey tracking in the bamboo forests of Mgahinga. These playful and fast-moving primates provide a lively and unique wildlife experience. In the afternoon, enjoy an optional cultural visit to the Batwa community, where you’ll learn about their traditional forest lifestyle, history, and deep connection to the land.


Day 4: Return to Kampala / Entebbe

After breakfast, begin your return journey to Kampala or Entebbe. Enjoy scenic views along the way with optional stopovers at the Equator line and local craft markets. Arrive in the evening for drop-off at your hotel or airport, marking the end of your memorable primate safari.
