Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Your safari begins with a scenic drive from Entebbe or Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, covering approximately 500–550 km. Along the way, there are exciting stops for sightseeing. You can pause at the Equator for photos and try out the famous water experiments that demonstrate the Coriolis effect. Another highlight is Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara, where you can enjoy a local lunch and learn about Uganda’s culture.
By evening, you will arrive at your lodge near Bwindi. Accommodation ranges from budget to luxury lodges, with popular options such as Clouds Gorilla Lodge, offering spectacular views and immersive wildlife experiences. Here, you can relax and prepare for the exciting trekking adventure ahead.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest
After an early breakfast, you will meet with Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers for a detailed briefing on gorilla trekking. You will then embark on a guided trek into the lush Bwindi Forest in search of a habituated gorilla family.
The trek can last anywhere from 1 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. Once found, you will have up to one hour observing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. You can take photographs, watch their social interactions, and marvel at their intelligence and gentle nature.
Additionally, some tours include interactions with the Batwa community, the forest’s indigenous people. This offers a unique cultural insight into their traditional lifestyle, forest knowledge, and history. By evening, you return to your lodge for rest and reflection on an extraordinary day.
Day 3: Return Journey
On the final day, enjoy breakfast at your lodge before starting the journey back to Entebbe or Kampala. The road trip allows you to soak in the scenic Ugandan countryside one last time.
